How to avoid heat-related illnesses

Dress appropriately: Wear thin, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.

Stay cool inside: If doable, stay in an air-conditioned space and take cool shower or bath.

Plan outdoor activities thoughtfully: Seek to restrict your outdoor activities to the coolest times of day, such as the morning and evening.

Wear sunscreen: Sunburn impairs your body's capacity to cool down and can dehydrate you.

Do not leave kids in vehicles: Even with a window cracked open, cars can quickly heat up to unsafe temperatures.

Stay hydrated: No matter your activity level, drink more fluids. Don't put off drinking till you're thirsty.

Keep your animals hydrated: Give your pets lots of fresh water and keep them in a shaded area.
