New weekly drop-in service will make it easier to report policing issues and concerns

The Muslim Women’s Council is launching a new drop-in service in conjunction with West Yorkshire Police in the Bradford District, to make it easier and more accessible for members of the public to discuss and report policing issues.

Local authorities and service providers have raised concerns that some policing matters may be going unreported, so the council is launching a weekly two-hour session at its offices at the Carlisle Business Centre in Bradford to make the process easier.

A police officer from the district’s Stronger Communities Team will attend each session, offering members of the public a face-to-face opportunity to discuss their concerns, either openly or privately.

The sessions are open to everyone and will run from 12pm to 2pm each Tuesday from 2 October.

Bana Gora, CEO, Muslim Women’s Council, said:

This is a really important service that we are hoping to engage all communities with, but in particular women and the BAME community, where traditionally there may have been cultural reasons for people not necessarily reporting matters to the police.

Sergeant Adam Taylor, of the Stronger Communities Team, added:

By working in partnership with this key community group we hope that members of the public will feel they have a safe and open space to speak to our officers.
