Muslim Women’s Council launches Think Tank Pilot Programme

The Muslim Women’s Council is launching the ‘Think Tank Pilot Programme’ inviting Muslim women in the Bradford district from all walks of life to be part of this new innovative project.

Muslim Women’s Council has received funding to deliver leadership training to Muslim women with lived experience of domestic violence, hate crime, Islamophobia, sexual exploitation and polygamy – with the ultimate aim of establishing a think-tank to empower participants to influence policy and debates around these issues.

Often, issues that are about Muslim women become a super imposed agenda through funders, government strategies and politics. The programme invites women to become ‘Community Influencers’, through their lived experience, to be at the forefront of identifying what the key issues are.

Bana Gora, CEO, Muslim Women’s Council, said:

There was always a sense that people parachute into cities like Bradford, and then back out again. There are very few credible, trained people ‘on the ground’ –, especially in the Muslim community. So why not use the experience we have between us, as Muslim women in Bradford, to identify gaps in services that we’ve experienced.
