Muslim Women’s Council to hold public consultation on first all – women managed mosque in the UK

Muslim women have a vital role to play in all aspects of public and private life, their participation has always been prominent throughout Islamic history and in the current context the role of British Muslim Women has never been more important.

The Muslim Women’s council would like Bradford’s communities to lead the way in empowering women to play a leading role in meeting this challenge by creating the UK’s first all-women managed mosque, which will incorporate a Centre of Excellence in promoting Islamic education and scholarship for Muslim women in the UK.

MWC Vision

It is for this reason that Muslim Women’s Council aim to ensure that Muslim women have the space to discuss issues that affect them and their families in their daily lives in an environment that is open to everyone.

MWC Believe this is a vital community asset for tackling social issues such as radicalisation and social cohesion.

In an era in which many young people feel their faith is no longer relevant, or are going to extremes, we want to be able to provide a safe space for them to question, learn and grow whilst having an appreciation of their heritage as well as the opportunity to make informed choices relevant to the 21st Century.

What we do know for sure is that this space will be managed by women, primarily for women. This will be an all-inclusive and fully accessible space for all communities, (Muslims and non-Muslims) and all schools of thought. A centre for learning and promoting shared values and a space for social and political engagement. A safe space for all women that encompasses all of the following and more; a space for worship, a safe space where women’s issues can be discussed, Islamic matrimonial service, bereavement service, legal advice service, parenting advice service, feeding the homeless and above all, a spiritual retreat and sanctuary.

A public consultation will be held this Sunday 2nd August 2015 at the Carlisle Business Centre from 1pm to 3:30pm.
