Sounds for the Soul – Muslim Women Nasheed Group
A Voice for Faith, Unity, and Healing
Sounds for the Soul is a pioneering nasheed group created by and for Muslim women, offering a spiritually uplifting and creatively expressive space where voices are used as instruments of worship, healing, and unity. Rooted firmly in Islamic tradition and guided by halal practices, the group provides a nurturing environment where Muslim women from diverse backgrounds come together to express their faith through the sacred art of nasheed.
Our mission is to empower Muslim women by deepening their spiritual connection, strengthening their self-confidence, and fostering meaningful bonds through song and shared purpose. Each session is more than just a performance; it is a spiritual experience that encourages reflection and mindfulness, with lyrical content inspired by the Qur’an, Hadith, and Islamic moral values. These gatherings enable women to connect with their faith on a deeper level, finding strength and peace in communal worship through vocal performance.
Participation in the group builds confidence, public speaking skills, and creative self-expression within a culturally sensitive and religiously appropriate setting. Members are given a platform to explore their voices and artistic identities while upholding Islamic values. The sense of community that emerges is profound—relationships are formed, sisterhood is strengthened, and mentorship between generations becomes a natural part of the experience.
Sounds for the Soul also serves as a space of cultural preservation. We honour the rich heritage of Islamic music by performing traditional and contemporary nasheeds in a halal format, using voice and percussion such as the duff. In doing so, we safeguard an important part of our collective history while making it accessible and inspiring for younger generations.
Many participants describe these sessions as a vital source of emotional and mental well-being. For some, they are a lifeline—a source of comfort, healing, and connection in times of stress, isolation, or anxiety. The spiritual ambiance of the group fosters a positive, uplifting atmosphere where emotional resilience is built, and where every woman feels seen, supported, and spiritually nourished.

Beyond our internal community, we are committed to engaging with the wider society. Our performances at local events and interfaith gatherings not only inspire others but also help reshape public perceptions of Muslim women. By sharing our voices with authenticity and pride, we challenge stereotypes and affirm our place as creative, faith-centered contributors to the social and cultural fabric.
Looking ahead to 2025 and 2026, our vision includes recording and releasing our debut nasheed album featuring original compositions, and performing at women-only events to further share our message. We also plan to expand our outreach through workshops in underserved communities and schools, develop leadership within the group to mentor the next generation of nasheed artists, and secure sustainable funding to support our growing needs for equipment, studio time, and travel.
The impact of Sounds for the Soul is best expressed through the voices of our members. One young woman shared, “Seeing others like me perform nasheeds gives me the confidence to express my faith proudly.” Another said, “These sessions are a lifeline for me. I used to feel lonely and isolated—now I’ve made friends I socialise with regularly.” Others speak of the emotional depth, the joy of expression, and the comfort that singing brings to their everyday lives.
In conclusion, Sounds for the Soul plays an essential role in nurturing the spiritual, emotional, and personal development of Muslim women. It is more than a musical group—it is a movement grounded in faith, creativity, and sisterhood. Through sacred song, we create a space where every woman’s voice matters, and where healing, empowerment, and unity take root.
