Lighting Paths, Empowering Hearts

A community-led initiative inspired by Atia Lokhat’s journey, supporting displaced Muslim children across the UK and helping them preserve stability, belonging and faith.

Displaced Muslim children arriving in the United Kingdom often face uncertainty, loss and a sudden disconnection from the community structures that once anchored their identity. Many spend long periods in temporary accommodation without access to learning, safe social spaces or consistent emotional support, placing them at risk of isolation when they most need stability and belonging.

Community led efforts show that inclusive teaching, pastoral care and faith centred support can transform a child’s wellbeing. Access to compassionate mentors, welcoming mosques and culturally sensitive programmes helps children rebuild confidence, regain identity and find emotional grounding after trauma. The experiences shared within this work highlight both the challenges and the transformative potential of coordinated community support.

This report highlights the insights shared by Atia Lokhat during the MWC Ladies and Chat event. Atia is a leading educator and advocate for displaced Muslim children, and the full report can be read in the MWC Reports section.
