Our Deen is Green: Planting Hope in Palestine

Our Deen is Green: Planting Hope in Palestine

Over the past two years, the Muslim Women’s Council community has stood together through moments of deep grief, compassion and commitment as we continued to support the people of Palestine in every way we could. Many of you will remember that in October 2023 we launched the Our Deen is Green upcycled bags initiative, a project rooted in faith, sustainability and solidarity. The intention behind it was to use part of the sales income to plant trees in Palestine, supporting farmers and protecting land that holds both history and hope.

When the situation in Gaza worsened and the humanitarian crisis became severe, we shifted our efforts towards providing urgent financial assistance to families in need. With your help, this support was delivered directly during our visit to Palestine in September 2024. It was a moment that reminded us of the responsibility we carry as a community and of the trust placed in us by women, families and supporters here in the UK and beyond.

Now, with a ceasefire announced last month and a cautious sense of rebuilding emerging, we felt it was the right time to return to the project’s original purpose. Today, with gratitude for your kindness and patience, we are honoured to share that fifty olive trees have been planted in Palestine through the Zaytoun Trees for Life programme, in your name and with your support.
