The Muslim Women’s Council hosted a grand interfaith evening on Friday 10th June, attended by over 150 guests.

Noted artist Shabnam Khan performed Sufiyana and Naatiya Qalaam, along with Kamal Uddin who performed many of his popular nasheeds, at the stunning Bradford Cathedral. Guest speakers included Bishop of Bradford, Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth, Adeeba Malik CBE DL and Naila Hussain, who shared their moving reflections on coping with personal loss during the pandemic. Members of the MWC team delivered a touching tribute to their late friend and MWC board member, Nuzhat Ali, who sadly died of cancer last year.

Food and refreshments were provided by MyLahore restaurant Bradford.

Bana Gora, CEO of Muslim Women's Council says:

We were delighted to help bring the community together after a very difficult time during the pandemic. The tributes were spiritually uplifting with musical celebration, sharing and reflection. It was wonderful to see different faith communities coming together in a powerful display of unity, epitomising Bradford’s City of Culture win. We would like to thank our friends at Engage Britain who funded this event, as well as our event partners The Leap and Bradford Cathedral for providing the historic, beautiful venue.

Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford, says:

Sounds For The Soul was an extraordinary combination of joy and uplifting spiritual music with deep thoughtful reflection on grief and loss.  This was a powerful testament to the work of MWC, and it was a privilege that we were able to host the event at Bradford Cathedral.

Adeeba Malik CBE DL, says:

The Sounds For the Soul event was a great opportunity for people to come together for a lovely evening of spiritual reflection and sharing of personal stories which affect our lives. There was a lot to learn and be inspired by. Well done to MWC for putting together this event.
