Members of the Muslim Women's Council were honoured to attend the launch of Leeds Road Festival 2026 at Bradford Live on Sunday 9 August, where they had the privilege of presenting the inaugural Bana Gora Community Award to a truly deserving recipient.
The award has been established in honour of the Muslim Women's Council's beloved co founder and CEO, Bana Gora, recognising her lifelong dedication to serving Bradford and her unwavering commitment to empowering women and strengthening local communities.
The Council expressed its sincere gratitude to the organisers of Leeds Road Festival for choosing to commemorate Bana's legacy in such a meaningful way.
The recognition reflects the values she championed throughout her life: compassion, service, inclusion and a deep commitment to creating opportunities for others. Last year, Bana attended the launch of the inaugural Leeds Road Festival alongside Saadia. Returning this year without her was an emotional moment for the team, but also one filled with pride as her remarkable life and enduring legacy were celebrated by the wider community.
Naming the Community Award after Bana is a fitting tribute to her vision, leadership and dedication to the people of Bradford.
Her influence continues to be felt through the lives she touched, the initiatives she led and the many individuals she inspired to serve their communities with purpose and compassion.
The Muslim Women's Council congratulates the inaugural recipient of the Bana Gora Community Award, Ziarath Nasa Hussain BEM and thanks Leeds Road Festival for ensuring Bana's legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
May Allah grant our beloved Bana the highest place in Jannat al Firdaws, accept her lifelong service as a source of continuous reward and continue to bless all those who carry forward her vision. Ameen.
