During a recent visit to Albania, the Muslim Women’s Council witnessed the positive impact of a livelihood initiative supporting vulnerable mothers and orphaned children in rural communities.
Many families in these areas face food insecurity, limited opportunities to earn an income and the rising cost of essential agricultural resources. For mothers raising orphaned children without a stable income, these pressures can make it extremely difficult to plan for the future.
Through the project, Islamic Relief Albania provided twelve families with one milking cow each. This practical support will help households produce milk, improve access to nutritious food and potentially generate additional income through the sale of surplus dairy products.
The initiative is designed to provide more than immediate assistance. By investing in productive assets and income generating opportunities, it can help families become more self reliant while supporting the wellbeing and future development of orphaned children.
One of the most moving aspects of the visit was seeing the happiness and renewed hope on the mothers’ faces. The support offered greater security and an opportunity for each family to begin building a more sustainable future with dignity.
Islamic Relief Albania continues to deliver vital work with care and respect for the communities it serves. The Muslim Women’s Council has reached out to the organisation to explore opportunities for collaboration and consider how our shared values, experience and resources could support and empower vulnerable women.
Through future partnerships, we hope to help address critical needs, promote self reliance and create meaningful, lasting change for women and families, both locally and internationally.
