MWC Visits Nahla Centre in Sarajevo: Empowering Women Through Faith and Education

Members of the MWC team visited the Head Office and Women’s Centre of Nahla in Sarajevo, together with Shahin Ashraf MBE (Global Advocate for Islamic Relief Worldwide) and Lubna Moalla (Head of Education at Yaqeen Institute).

Nahla is a nongovernmental, nonprofit organisation founded in 2000. It runs local projects focused on adult education and social research, with a strong emphasis on empowering women of all ages through education, networking, counselling, business support, faith and spirituality, health promotion, and recreational activities.

11th July 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia. Over 8,000 men & boys were brutally massacred while the world watched in silence. It followed three years of over 100,000 people being killed, thousands of women raped, and more than two million people being forced from their homes, simply because of their faith.

As we remember Srebrenica, we cannot ignore the echoes of that silence today, especially in Palestine and Gaza, where civilians continue to suffer under relentless violence, displacement, and siege. A genocide that is happening right now.
